I hope you enjoyed a lovely long Bank Holiday weekend in the sun! It makes such a difference when the sun comes out!
The last few days at The Holt have been very much “heads down” as the Year 11 and 13 students are finishing off their exam specifications and counting down to study leave, Year 10 have been preparing for their first round of PPEs (Pre-public exams) and KS3 students are getting ready for their assessments after half term.
However, there was time for a lovely break time catch up with the biology and chemistry Olympiad winners I wrote about a couple of weeks ago. The students explained to Mrs Kennedy and I how the questions on the paper were degree level and so they thought it was really tough. They were of course delighted when they heard they had passed with bronze and silver awards!
This week we also closed the vote on the name of the new House, and we announced it to the students in registration on Friday. In case you have not already been told, the winning name was …………Broderers!
We were delighted with the amount of votes cast. It really was a very good turnout. Overall, 1,221 students and staff voted and the results were as follows:
In 4th place, was Basketmakers (143 votes), 3rd place went to Bowyers (257 votes), 2nd place went to Bakers (371 votes), and so 1st place was Broderers, who won with a convincing 459 votes.
This week we will be launching a competition to design the new House pennant. Once finished, this will adorn the hall alongside the pennants of the existing seven Houses in time to welcome our first cohort of Broderers in September.
We look forward to sharing the winning design with you in due course.
The last bit of news for this week is to let you know that this Saturday, we have a team going off to compete at Reading Crown Court for the regional finals of the Bar mock trials. It is always a very tense and tough competition for which they have been so well trained by Mrs Allison, Miss Roberts and Miss Harris. We wish the girls the very best of luck; they have worked hard and prepared well. We will update you on how they did next week!
