It is a real pleasure, as the Headteacher of The Holt, to welcome you to our website and to our school.
The Holt is an 11-18 comprehensive girls’ school which became a converter academy in 2011. The school was founded in 1931 and still occupies the same site even though the school population has increased from 23 to its current roll of 1280. At the heart of the school is the “old building” part of which dates back to 1648 and was owned by the Heelas family.
The school maintains a number of traditions and extols traditional values whilst at the same time embracing change. As well as the broad and balanced formal curriculum, students at The Holt enjoy a rich and varied extra curricular programme. We are very fortunate to have an extremely talented and hardworking staff all of whom are committed to providing the best possible education both in and outside of the classroom. Teaching and support staff give generously of their time to provide a wide range of enrichment activities. As an International School we actively encourage all our students to step outside “the Wokingham bubble” and experience other cultures through exchanges, trips and expeditions. Relationships between staff and students are excellent and across the whole school community there is an atmosphere of mutual respect.
The House system provides many opportunities for healthy competition, with House Art, House Drama, House Music, House Sport being just a few of the events which take place. Many of these activities are coordinated and led by our Senior Prefect Team and House Captains who work alongside staff to support the younger years.
My vision for the school is to ..........
... inspire all members of our community to be the best they can be
by challenging students and staff to work hard
in order to achieve success
I hope that this has given you a flavour of The Holt and encourage you to come and experience the school at first hand.
