Sixth Form Vision

Sixth Form Vision

We are proud of our sixth form. Students have a true sense of belonging and develop as young adults ready for life beyond school. We encourage them to be independant, however we ensure there is support and structure in place to encourage students to take control of their learning and to take up varied enrichment opportunities so they achieve their very best.

The Holt sixth form aims to inspire every student to love learning. Sixth form lessons are engaging, stimulating and exciting; allowing students to study subjects they are passionate about to the highest level.

We offer a wide range of A level subjects enabling students to study across a range of disciplines. Teachers are experts in their subjects, and are encouraged to be reflective and innovative practitioners. Staff work hard and are committed to achieving the best for all students.

Our sixth form students are role models for the whole school; we have an outstanding student leadership and prefect team, who make a significant contribution to the life of the school. They organise events, charity opportunities and run the school council.

Life in the sixth form gives our students the opportunity to develop leadership skills alongside their studies, leading to a true community spirit. These leadership and enrichment opportunities will inspire our students to move out of their comfort zone in order to grow in self-confidence. Developing interests and skills outside of their subject specialism ensures that our students are ready with life beyond school.

We challenge all students to respect themselves, others and the environment in order to make The Holt a safe and caring place, where there is trust, mutual respect and appreciation for everyone’s contribution to life around the school. We celebrate the many cultures that are represented in the school and actively promote tolerance.

We also challenge our students to adopt a growth mindset, to believe that their abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for future success.

Our dedicated sixth form team and Personal Tutor team work closely with our students to coach and support them through the transition from GCSE to A level. This includes help setting up effective study systems as well as giving advice and guidance on their next steps, whether that be Oxbridge, Russell Group universities, vocational courses, apprenticeships or employment.

As a sixth form, we challenge our students to develop their characters, through a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities alongside a thriving house system. Students can take part in a range of inter-house competitions as well as local and national competitions such as debating and Young Enterprise. There are many visits in this country and abroad in addition to curriculum based field trips and cultural trips.

Our students are encouraged to be the best they can be across a range of achievements; academic, social and creative. Education at The Holt  is about much more than just academic performance.

An education at The Holt is also about providing every student with wide ranging opportunities to develop into confident, responsible and aspirational young people ready to make a positive contribution to society.

We very much look forward to welcoming you to our sixth form.
