La Hispana

La Hispana is a student-led newspaper that was created from a student’s original idea to celebrate a passion for languages and to give a clear purpose to the learning taking place at A Level. The project began as a way to extend classroom learning beyond lessons, allowing students to use language creatively while exploring topics that genuinely interested them.
Although La Hispana has naturally evolved since the founding student left the school, it continues to be driven by the same enthusiasm for languages and cultural discovery. Today, a dedicated team of students works collaboratively on each edition, developing their writing skills, researching new topics and learning more about the richness and diversity of languages. The team values creativity, independence and curiosity, and takes pride in producing high-quality work for the wider school community.
La Hispana is a newspaper made by students, for students. While the majority of articles are written by our A Level students, reflecting their advanced language skills and depth of study, we have welcomed contributions from students across nearly all year groups over time. This inclusive approach allows younger students to engage with languages beyond the classroom and be inspired by those further along in their studies.
The newspaper provides a platform for learners to write about subjects they are passionate about, particularly those connected to the Hispanic world, including culture, history, current affairs, traditions, literature and personal interests. While La Hispana originally featured articles written entirely in Spanish, it has grown to reflect a more multilingual approach. Recent editions have included contributions in French and English, as well as collaborative projects with students from other schools.
The aim of La Hispana is to continue developing as an inclusive and creative space that celebrates languages and cultures. By integrating more cultures, languages and perspectives, the newspaper encourages students to broaden their horizons, deepen their understanding of the world and appreciate the value of language learning both inside and outside the classroom.
