Dear Parents, Guardians and Friends,

Firstly, a huge congratulations to Borderers who are our house winners of 2025. They celebrated their success on Monday with pizza and biscuits.

Miss Hayes said:

It has been a great year for Broderers, we have not only raised lots of money for Helen and Douglas House, we have also entered many competitions and events. The girls in Broderers have shown true dedication to win two years in a row!

This is a great achievement for Broderers who are the most recent addition to our Houses. Being the winning house comes from participation in a wide range of competitions and events across all the year groups- and their dedication paid off. Well done Broderers!

Each of our forms organises one charity event each year to raise money and points for their house. Last week our Year 7 Clothworkers organised their first one.

Mrs Pettit told us:

7C arranged their first ever charity event after Easter. Planning for the second day back meant lots of things had to be done before the holiday so good organisation was required! Working in groups they all arranged a game meaning there was 6 games to choose from including a name that song and a ball into the cup and lots of sweetie prizes available! Visitors to the fair bought tokens to spend on the games and the form also contributed towards a bake sale. This meant there were 7 stalls to arrange and cover over the lunchtime and the form worked so well together to make this happen. The hard work paid off with a rewarding £96.35 being raised for charity and a few house points already achieved for Clothworkers!

Staying with the idea of trying new things and pushing yourself out of your comfort zone, one of our school priorities this year has been about grapple. To grapple (outside of the world of wrestling!) is all about engaging with complex ideas and problems that do not have a straightforward answer. It means you are persistent and willing to be uncertain about the outcome whilst you work it out rather than avoiding the challenge. We have delivered assemblies on grapple and teachers have been using the term within their lessons. We know that developing these skills come from what is done inside and outside of the classroom and activities like organising house events, and extra-curricular clubs all contribute to this important skill.

Our extracurricular timetable has now been released for the summer term. There are some new additions on the timetable and some firm favourites, so please do encourage your daughter to take a look and maybe try something new. https://www.holtschool.co.uk/school-life/extra-curricular-activities/

And finally, the Friends of The Holt are running a quick “everything must go” auction with a number of great prizes up for grabs.

A letter is coming out today with the link to the prizes, so do have a browse- once again, there are some great bargains up for grabs. We are very grateful to Rochy Wilson, who works so hard on these auctions, which make a good amount of money for the school. We are currently saving up to landscape a new garden area with benches, for the students to enjoy! This will create much needed outside space

Our Year 11 and Year 13 students are about to enter their exam season, with the Year 11 and Year 13 art and MFL oral exams already taking place. Best of luck to all of our students for these exams. Our Year 12 students will also be starting their work experience placements next week and we know they will have an exciting week ahead of them.
