Dear Parents, Guardians and Friends
Only 7 weeks until Christmas and the staff choir are starting rehearsals for the St Paul’s Christmas Concert! Here is a round up of the week before half term and what is to come this half term.
The week before half term, we had the Year 7 concert involving the whole year group singing pieces they had been working on in class over the first half term. We had 189 students involved on the night along with 12 instrumental soloists and four readers. All the students performed so well and it was a brilliant way to celebrate the end of Year 7’s first half term at The Holt. Thanks very much to Mr Gray, Head of Music and Mrs Crozier for organising this event. The music was uplifting, relaxing and most importantly the students looked like they were really enjoying themselves.
Also just before half term, 152 of our sixth form students headed to Thorpe Park for Fright Night, enjoying a great evening of rides and Halloween mazes! It was the first social of the year for the sixth form and hugely popular amongst both year groups.
The students had a fantastic time, the evening was full of fun, laughter and memorable moments. A group of students called it ‘epic’!
It was brilliant to see so many students getting involved, enjoying themselves and making the most of this exciting sixth form social event. A huge thank you goes to Mrs Barrington, Deputy Head of Sixth Form for organising the event and all the staff who accompanied the group and helped make the evening such a success.
The key events this half term are this week and next the Year 11 and 13 PPEs – good luck! Then on Wednesday 11th November we are holding our Remembrance service and in the evening Year 11 GCSE musicians are performing in a concert. Year 10-13 drama students will be performing Hope Springs at the Whitty Theatre on Tuesday 17th November.
On Thursday 19th November it is our Sixth Form Open Evening where Year 11 and their parents find out more about life in the sixth form and meet subject teachers.
We have a non-uniform day on Friday 20th November where students bring in a prize for the Christmas Fair tombola rather than a donation.
The Model UN Conference takes place on 24th November and Year 9 Parents’ information evening takes place on 25th November, where parents will be given handy tips on how to support their daughters with revision as well as information on the options process.
We have early closure and Year 11 parents evening on Thursday 26th November followed by sixth form taster day on Friday 27th November, where Year 11 sample A level lessons and hear more about life in the sixth form. The Year 12s will sit their first PPES from Wednesday 2nd December to Friday 4th December for which they have started preparing.
We have another early closure on Thursday 3rd December as it is Year 13 Parents’ Evening. Then in the run up to Christmas, we have our Christmas Concert at St Paul’s on Thursday 10th December, the Christmas Fair on Friday 11 December and finally on Tuesday 15th December it is our traditional Christmas lunch and Christmas jumper day followed by the Sixth form quiz after school. We have Christmas assemblies followed by early closure on the last day of term – Friday 18th December. Information on all these events will be sent out nearer the time.
Finally, thank you for all the donations to Wade following our non uniform day at the end of half term. We raised £ £1,131.77 – which is fantastic.
Best wishes
