Dear Parents, Guardians and Friends
After the fond farewells for the Year 11s on Wednesday, it was the turn of our Year 13 students to leave us on Friday.
As per Holt tradition, on Thursday the Year 13 students along with Mrs Thomas and Miss Hornblow came dressed in school uniform………and just like Mrs Connor the day before…..they could have easily past for main school students!
The Friday started early in the morning as students arrived in their fabulous fancy dress outfits; we had cowgirls, minions, bees, and my personal favourites – the gang from Scooby-Doo…..who actually won the best fancy dress prize. The 6th form team also did themselves proud as they dressed up as the characters from Little Red Riding Hood and the three little pigs……
The morning was spent either in their last ever lessons or visiting teachers and showing appreciation with their kind words, cards and thoughtful gifts.
Here is Mr Hutchins and some of his business class, who told him how they much they had enjoyed his lessons and his great case studies and examples.
Break time saw the return of the ever-popular ice cream van………..
And then on to the leavers’ assembly Pd 3 , which was also very special; funny prizes issued, kind words said, fond memories shared from the course of their seven Holt years, and lots of well wishes.
Many teachers sent pictures of their 18-year-old selves, along with a message for the future.
Mrs Kennedy and I were asked to send a picture of ourselves as well………..but sadly and somewhat strangely, (cough, cough) neither of us could un-earth those unflattering pictures we had of us from the 80s with our dubious bubble perms……and pony tails in a banana clip ….(if you know, you know!) that were fashionable back then, honestly! So instead of a picture, my words of advice would be………for those of you starting Uni- be your lovely self and remember that however confident everyone else seems……..they really are feeling the same as you! Get stuck in, join a club, and when it feels tough, because it will………chin up and remember you are a Holt student! And a message for everyone- smile!
Lastly on Friday, Mrs Kennedy and I welcomed our new Year 10 prefects with a special assembly and issued their badges. They are a very cheery group of students, and we just know they will carry on the great job of prefects past and be fabulous representatives of The Holt School.
This week…….public exams are now in full swing. How does time fly so fast!
