Dear Parents, Guardians and Friends
The end of this week leads us nicely into the half term break. Whilst it has been a short one, four weeks and four days due to two bank holidays; we have still managed to pack lot in and feel this is a well-deserved break for all.
The Year 11s are well and truly on the exam treadmill now. Weirdly, this is the nice bit, each day they get to tick off more and more exams completed, and they work nearer and nearer towards the end of exams and that lovely long summer. Year 13’s A levels are also well underway, although less of a treadmill, with less actual papers to sit, but nevertheless working so hard.
I will also give a shout out to our Year 10 students, who can now finally relax, having completed the final paper of their GCSE PoR today. They are rewarded tonight and tomorrow night with a trip to the Superbowl organised by their Head of Year, Mrs Connor. They will have a great time, I’m sure and will have learned a lot about what revision techniques worked best for them ready for next year.
We are so pleased with the stoic attitudes of all our students towards their exams. They have really “locked in” as they would say……. Our invigilators have commented about how great they have been in and around their exam venues.
So, for all our students sitting public exams, we hope you find time to rest and recuperate over the half term break, and back for the home straight in June……….not long now
This week, the Year 7 students have been enjoying the annual geography fieldwork to Rushall farm. Mr Marrison said
Each form in Year 7 has had great fun visiting Rushall Farm this week and last. On the trip they looked at the UK’s food supply chain, how an organic farm works and how farmers can diversify their economic activities. They have also learnt how to measure the flow, and cross sectional area, of a river. From this they will learn how to calculate the discharge of a river. This trip enriches the student’s learning within the Year 7 topic ‘Food Issues’ and the Year 8 topic ‘Rivers’.
The weather has been very kind to us and much fun was had by all, especially when experiencing waders for the first time! Other highlights were Farmer John’s chickens, the very friendly farm dogs and of course the ever popular tractor rides.
Thanks so much to the geography department for organising this iconic trip!

Yesterday, The Holt Association ran their bi-annual Krispy Kreme doughnut sale. Linda Carroll, chair of The Holt Association, and her team of retired ex Holt staff and students Steve, Madelaine, Phillipa and Jo, ran the whole thing, from creating the posters, to ordering and collecting the doughnuts to selling them. It was a great success, raising about £300 in all. All funds raised come directly back to the school, and this year we are raising money to fund a garden area for the students to enjoy at break and lunchtime.

It is aways lovely to see Linda Carroll and her team and catch up on their lives in retirement!

Lastly, on Saturday night, Mrs Williams completed the Walk the Walk for breast cancer and tomorrow, we have an own clothes day to raise money to contribute to the charity. Mrs Williams was really happy after the event, but said she was tired and sore……..

At least she can have half term to rest and recuperate!
Wishing you all a lovely break when it comes.
